Our 2024 Art Retreat in Spain

Artists relaxed and revitalised by the Spanish sunshine and blue skies on one of our private excursions

Our 2024 Art Retreat in Los Alcázares on the Spanish Mar Menor was a huge success. We are all still buzzing about it!! Sue summed it up perfectly in her testimonial.

“The Art Retreat in Los Alcázares hosted by Jane was a very enjoyable experience. Jane had done a lot of research and preparation for the course, and had secured a very good deal at the hotel, with comfortable rooms, delicious food, and a light and spacious studio to work in. She had visited several venues and booked meals and trips out to greatly enhance our experience. One memorable evening included a tour of some of the many murals for which Los Alcázares has become known, described by a very knowledgeable guide who himself had painted one of the works.
These experiences gave us plenty of inspiration for our artistic endeavours.
Jane’s teaching encouraged us to express our art in our own way, after providing us with the basic knowledge with which to begin.
All the materials were provided and Jane’s generosity and encouragement helped us to experiment in ways that we may not have done before.
It has definitely sparked some new ideas to help me develop my own artistic expression.”

Guided Tour of the Arte Urbano Museo

Los Alcázares is famous for being the first and largest museum of outdoor urban art. More than 200 local and international artists from 4 continents have left their mark over the last ten years beautifying the walls of Los Alcázares. It is a living and dynamic exhibition of more than 160 murals of different sizes. These works of art are full of messages, symbolism and beauty. It was an incredible experience to be given a private, guided tour by one of the local artists Jesús Albaladejo. Definitely one of the highlights of our 2024 Art Retreat according to everyone. It will be interesting to see what new art works appear on the walls of Los Alcázares in our 2026 Art Retreat.

Our Private Air Conditioned Art Studio

Despite the gorgeous temperatures outdoors we all benefitted from the luxury of perfect working conditions in our private indoor art studio. It was wonderful to go back to our works in progress exactly as we had left them!!

There was at least 2 to 3 hours of daily tuition using our plein air sketches, photographic sources of inspiration and intuitive exercises to create small and medium sized paintings. However the studio was available for the artists use between 9am – 3pm and 5pm – 12pm daily.

Ian said “I can thoroughly recommend an Art Retreat with Jane Aston Studios. There was plenty of time to engage with artistic activities.”

Spanish Cuisine

Everyone thoroughly enjoyed gathering together at meal times. We discovered an amazing array of gastronomical delights to tantalise our tastebuds in a variety of Spanish restaurants. The paella accompanied by delicious wine and a Flamenco Show at La Encarnación was definitely another highlight of the week for us all.
